Happy Birthday Kalyan

Its my friend Kalyan’s birthday on 8th of January. This guy is different from others with whom I studied. He has the best way of writing the notes which I follow even as of today. He is jovial yet serious, he is friendly with everyone yet has his own secrets, he is very talkative yet an introvert, overall he is an amazing guy and I am happy I am friends with him. I wish him many more such wonderful birthdays.

What Motivates me to meet friends?

As you guys know I have recently moved to the USA from Singapore. For last 9 years, my life in Singapore has been wonderful, but have always felt that I have missed my friends and cousins who got settled in the US. As soon as I dropped in US, I started my travel to meet my long lost friends and cousins. I have travelled 14 states so far in 5 months and met my cousins and many of my friends from school and college. All these trips have been just to meet people rather than to see the place.

One of these trips was a trip to Madison Wisconsin to meet my college friend Kalyan. Srikanth and I flew to Minnesota to meet up Ravi and from there we drove to Madison. It was really nice to meet Kalyan’s mom whom I am seeing after more than 7 years. Also I got to meet and know his wife Sailaja. During this trip we went out for drinks and in that discussion came a question from Kalyan.

“Even though we want to meet, we find reasons to postpone the trips or skip the meeting, rather you find reasons and always try to meet. What motivates you to travel so far to meet people. What is the driving factor?”

At that moment, I gave some answer which even I was not convinced about. Since then more than a week has passed and I have already done another road trip to 4 states to meet friends and cousins. Fortunately during this trip I got a chance to drive alone for more than 12 hours straight which helped me to ponder up on that question. I guess the answer involves two factors intermingling. One my passion for travel and two my love for friends and cousins. I don’t really want to write about why I travel as its a topic for another day. Now the question is “Why I go to such great lengths to meet friends and family”.

When I was a kid, my dad taught me the difference between a classmate and a friend. So until I came to college, I always had not more than 5 friends (whom I chose very carefully) in a class of more than 50. I wouldn’t even bother about other people in the class. This might also be because of my shyness which has costed dearly with respect to knowing my classmates. But ever since I joined my graduation, I was matured/bold enough to talk to new people and make new friendships. This experience at MGIT has made me realise that I was very natural at making friends and maintaining the relationships.

From there on, I have been instrumental (self boasting) in bringing friends together and keeping the group intact. I have done a reunion for my school friends when I was in my first job. Even when I moved to Singapore, I made sure I don’t miss any marriage of my cousins and friends and had tried to meet up with everyone whenever possible. Recently I have taken the initiative of a small reunion with school friends in the US. I have also started multiple whatsapp groups to make sure we are all in touch with each other.

Having said all the above, I would say the below reasons keep me going:

1. Cannot afford to loose friends: It’s very difficult to start a friendship/relationship. Once that bond is formed, we cannot afford to loose that connection with friends. In this materialistic world, getting a good friend without expecting anything from you is very difficult. So I try to treasure such friendships and relationships.

2. Once a friend always a friend: All these friends whom I have met in last 5 months, I am meeting them after many years. But the moment we met, we could kick off from where we left it. So there is no awkwardness or tension when you start the conversation.

3. Happiness: I find happiness in these small meetings when you share those old moments which you have lived/shared together. Everyone whom I have met have shared their appreciation for taking this step and meeting them. It was very welcoming for me to do more of it.

3. Kal ho na ho: In my life, I have found couple of examples where in people were devastated for not meeting up with friends before it got too late.

4. Travel: As I told above, I love travelling and I use these opportunities to meet friends as a reason to hit the road.

5. Just for the sake of it: Going out and meeting friends just for the sake of it without any reason. What worse can happen apart from some laughs together.

6. May be for a reason: I believe we all are in this world for a reason. When we meet our friends, we might be at the right time at the right place and something amazing might happen to you or your friend because of this meeting. Recently a friend called me to check about what’s going on at my end and also shared about his struggles with job search. That call changed his fate as I was able to arrange an interview which helped him get a job.

Finally I would say, not everyone can do as what I am doing. I am sure everyone will have their own reasons for doing what they are doing. But I would say, we need to be in touch with our friends atleast through a call or message so that we will all have more and more wonderful moments together.

Resolutions for 2017

Its time for the Resolutions for the new year. Yet another year will pass and yet many goals will not be reached. But I like to write them down because I will at least know what I wanted during this time of life.

1. My top priority and the top of the list would be to learn a new technology which would help me find a job soon once I am job less.

2. Life with Shannu and Srihan is quite busy. So I will keep a minimum target for myself to read atleast 12 books.

3. Without the fitness goal in it, its not called as a resolution for the year. By the end of year, I want to be lean and fit and weigh not more than 70Kgs.

4. Want to visit atleast 2 National Parks this year.

5. I have been very bad with my finances through out my life. I should keep an account of every penny that I earn/spend/lend.

6. No Investments – Lessons learned hard way

7. Call everyone for their birthday than messaging on Social Media

8. Start Running

9. Sky Dive.

10. Learn one musical instrument in 2014.

11. Learn basic communication in a new language

12. Learn something new everyday and document it.

Dhoni – The Street Smart

Cricket in India was introduced by the British and lot of legendary players have blessed it with their style and class. So far 287 players in Tests, 216 players in ODIs and 66 in T20Is have made debut for India. How many do we really remember? How many have had an impact on us? How many have created their own style?

For me there are few players because whom I am still watching cricket. I can start with

Gavaskar, the Master Class batsmen from 70s, who is admired all across the globe even today for his batting.

In the early and mid 80s came the first ever Fast Bowler for India – “Kapildev Ramlal Nikhanj”. He inspired a whole generation of fast bowlers for India.

In the late 80s was the stylish Hyderabadi Mohd. Azharuddin whose wrist play can never be forgotten. He was the most respected captain in his prime among all teams.

Then came the GOD – SACHIN about whom I need not write as his name says it all.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, it was yet another cricketer who became popular for his captaincy – Saurav Ganguly. My generation can never forget his straight sixers outside the stadium.

Then came the most arrogant and restless player of the era – Virender Sehwag. He entertained crowds in all formats of the game.

Till now whom so ever I have mentioned had amazing statistics, game, style, class. If it was not for them, I would have lost interest in cricket long ago.

All the above players are legends and no one can even dream to be them again. Playing along side with them itself would be a great honour for anyone. But there is one person who for whom I have started this blog can manage all these guys in one team and get the best out of them.

That’s None other than Mahender Singh Dhoni. He hailed from a state about which most of us would come to know after him. He debut in 2004 December and brought India T20 World cup in 2007 September. He took up on a role which no other senior player wanted to even consider. He got a very young team to play with and went on to win the 2011 ODI world cup. He also achieved the Number one status for India in Test Cricket. He has achieved all the heights that any captain can reach. For me he is the best captain so far for India.

Today I heard the news which was inevitable and was just matter of time for the man to take the decision. Mahender Singh Dhoni has decided to call it quits from captaincy in limited overs cricket.

I am sure his reigns would go to able hands of awe inspiring young man Virat Kohli who himself has already established as one of the greats to play the sport.

Back yet again

Today just by chance my friends (from SRMJC) in “Pinde ka Paandav” (I know it sounds funny) Whatsapp group brought up the topic of blogging. I didn’t know that I was in company with couple of amazing bloggers. MVS and KillBill (that’s what I would like to call them) are amazing blogs to read.

Just for show off I also shared my simple (compared to the above professional blogs) personal blog to them. They liked it and have encouraged me to start writing again. Compliments for my blog from good friends has actually done some impact and I have decided that I should start writing yet again after all these years.

Finally I am back to my nonsensical posts yet again.

Happy Women’s Day

Today is 8th March 2015, is International Women’s Day. I would like to dedicate this post to all those women who has influenced my life at some point.

Where else can I start apart from writing about my mom. Today whatever I am and whatever is my personality is all because of my mom. She has been guiding us (my brother and me) through out our lives. She has been telling us what is right and what is wrong. Frankly my respect for women has come from what ever my mom taught me. She is the reason why I have not been influenced with the foul language even though many around me use it. I would give credit to my mom for what I ever good person I have become today. I can go on and on. I wish I was with you today but I take this opportunity to let you know that I love you unconditionally and wish you a very happy women’s day.

Next person who has influenced me was my best friend and cousin Ramya. I have learned how to be strong from her. She has taught me how to behave with girls. I was very timid until I met her and she is the reason behind my confidence when I approach someone. I love her for her guts and the determination. Ramya you are such a beautiful soul and I love you for what you are. Happy Women’ Day to you.

Dolly is my lovely sister who has been with me during my most important phase of life. I have learned from her as how to love someone unconditionally. She has been with me during thick and thin. Even though she was my little sister, she has always guided me in the right direction and have always boosted my confidence. Even through the rough patches you have never left my side. I love you Dolly for everything and thanks a lot for being there when needed and I wish you a very happy women’s day.

During college I had the best friend any one can get. If it was not for her, I wouldn’t have got even those marks that I got in my Bachelors. She has been a strong figure and have always guided and motivated me. She is someone who is always there to give a shoulder to lay my head and cry when I am sad. Even though we speak once a year, we are still the best buddies. I love you Jitna for being my best friend during and after college. I wish you a very happy women’s day.

Many people have different opinions regarding marriage. For me marriage brought wonders into my life. Swetha is the best thing happened in my life. Everyone say marriage changes people, but with Swetha, I am still the same. She has never stopped me from being me. She has been more of a best friend than a wife. I love her for that trade in her. Thanks to her the second best thing Shannu happened in my life. Thanks Swetha for everything and happy women’s day.

Finally its Shannu who has brought lot of happiness in life. I would wish you the women’s day when you grow up. Until then I love you so much Shannu.

Khat – The Letter

Its been more than a year I have even logged into this blog. Today I tumbled up on a beautiful video which makes sense of life. Its all about basics of life and if everyone follow them then our life will be beautiful.

I would like to write the letter to my daughter and hope to see her grow with a beautiful soul.

Dear Sharvani,

Welcome to this world

This is a beautiful, lovely and amazing place

and you have been sent here to make it more beautiful and amazing

Who sent us??

Nobody has been able to know that till date

and probably its not even important

so please don’t waste your time on such questions

We all have a limited time here

There is so much to see

There is so much to know

and there is so much to experience

that you don’t have any time to waste

Possibilities are endless

You can become anything

You can do anything

You can change the world

Try something new everyday

Try to learn and understand something new

and if in doubt

remember

Its always better to regret about something after doing it

rather than regretting without doing it

because by doing something

even if you don’t gain anything

you will gain experience

which is very valuable

Experience everything

But don’t get addicted

Experience will help you differentiate right from wrong

It will prevent you from committing mistakes

but don’t be afraid of committing mistakes

because only those who does something make mistakes

Take responsibility for your mistakes

and try to rectify them

Forgive other people’s mistakes

and give them a chance to rectify it

No one likes to commit mistakes

No one misbehaves on purpose

You don’t know whats going on in anyone’s life

so treat everyone the way you treat yourself

be as lenient to others as you are to yourself

Respect everyone

Trust everyone

and most important

Love everyone

Love is very sparse in this world and everyone needs it

You will need it too

Don’t hesitate to ask for it

Don’t hesitate to show it

Life is too short to be shy or be in doubt

Dance like there is no tomorrow

Sing with all your heart

Eat as much as you can

Laugh loudly

and always cry like a baby

Only your body should grow old

not your heart

The day you loose your childishness and innocence

You loose your life

Think about the future

but don’t worry about it

Think about the past

but don’t get lost in it

There will be good days and bad days

Don’t boast too much when the days are good

Don’t loose hope when the days are bad

Don’t give yourself all the credit for your success

and never blame others for your failures

Just keep moving forward

Keep spreading happiness

and always remember

You have been sent here just for one reason

To make this world

more beautiful

and more amazing

Lots of Love

Dad

2013 in review for my blog

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,600 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
